Record sales year for Lexus in New Zealand
Saturday, 26 January 2019
Lexus has recorded its best ever sales result (2018 sales) in its history in the New Zealand market.
Across the country, Lexus dealers sold over 800 new vehicles for a 14 percent increase on 2017, in a year where many other luxury marques experienced a decline in volume.
“The record sales figure is a great result. It is testament to the outstanding design, and superb performance of the Lexus range as well as the commitment to the brand by our Lexus dealers,” said Paul Carroll, the Senior General Manager of Lexus of New Zealand.
“Our unique proposition as the leading supplier of self-charging hybrid electric vehicles set us apart from our rivals,” he said.
43 percent of Lexus sales are from self-charging hybrid electric models. “There is avid demand for the smooth power deliver, as well as the fuel economy and environmental benefits of our hybrid range,” said Mr Carroll.
The market’s appetite for sport’s utility vehicles (SUVs) is even more rampant in the luxury sector than in the mass market. The mid-sized RX, which has become available in a seven-seater version this year, was a strong seller in its segment, outselling models such as the Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLE.
The RX was the top seller for the Lexus marque with 36 per cent of all sales, while the smaller NX and the larger LX make up another 34 per cent.
The new compact crossover UX is scheduled for a local launch in February, adding another unique option to the range, and is expected to be a key contributor to Lexus’ 2019 sales.
“More people are experiencing the amazing design, product quality, unique cabin ambience and performance potential of the combination of an electric motor and a petrol engine in the self-charging hybrid electric models,” said Mr Carroll.
The comprehensive standard specification and pricing of the Lexus range is also contributing to its success in the premium sector of the market.
